Piyumi Andibuduge
My name is Piyumi Chamathka Andibuduge Fernando, my origins are from Sri Lanka but I was born in Rome, Italy.
I attended a bachelor’s degree course in sociology, which had an interdisciplinary approach. My master degree was in international cooperation and development sciences. In the same period, I worked as a volunteer for Unicef, writing articles for the social pages of the organization and I attended a short course about project management, focusing on Specific expertise on initiating and managing community projects. My first working experience was for the Universal Civil Service for which I spent almost a year in Nairobi, Kenya, working in a small slum (Deep Sea) located in Westlands’s area. The activities included providing assistance and coordinate after-school activities for 30 teenagers from Deep Sea Slum, monthly donation reporting and administrative reports on activities, collaboration with Rainbow for Africa volunteer doctors in the slum, visiting patients in their homes and in a gathering place. Also coordination and management of crochet and sewing activities with some women from the slum to create economic income through their product and management of a long- distance adoption program for all the 50 kids and teenagers involved in the project.
I'm strongly interested in working in the humanitarian sector.
My passion begun during the years of the master, thanks to the topics covered and the discussions with other students.
The year that I spent in Kenya helped me to understand my potentials and limits, I learnt a lot about cooperation and how it can affects the local population. I'd like to keep growing my knowledge through experience.
